This timely documentary visualizes the issues and solutions surrounding architecture and design in an era of global climate change and rising sea levels. Through conversations with architects, climate experts, journalists and photographers, we examine the rebuilding of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, discuss new design philosophies in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, and experience the concept of “resilient” design that is now being employed around the globe — from Bangladesh to Japan, from Nigeria to the Netherlands.
Directed by Steven Kochones, “Sink or Swim: Designing for a Sea Change” was commissioned by the Annenberg Foundation and originally screened as part of the eponymous exhibition at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles from December 13, 2014 thru May 3, 2015.

“Who Shot Rock & Roll: The Film”
Arclight’s original documentary short explores the groundbreaking collaborations between photographers and recording artists who came together to create some of the most enduring images in rock history. Covering the early 1950s thru the present, “Who Shot Rock & Roll” tells the stories behind the photos and takes viewers on a visual journey through the many eras of rock and roll. Powerful imagery and insightful commentary give viewers a unique glimpse into photography’s impact on rock and roll.
The 37-minute film, based on the book and exhibit by Gail Buckland, features interviews, new photographs and never-before-seen footage spotlighting the work of Edward Colver, Henry Diltz, Jill Furmanovsky, Lynn Goldsmith, Bob Gruen, Norman Seeff, Mark Seliger and Guy Webster. Shot in Los Angeles, New York and the United Kingdom, the film also features musicians Alice Cooper, Noel Gallagher, Debbie Harry and Henry Rollins. In a special segment, the film rediscovers Linda McCartney through images handpicked by Paul McCartney and a rare interview with Mary McCartney discussing her mother’s rarely seen, historic work. The film includes iconic songs and music from Blondie, The Doors, KISS, Led Zeppelin, Oasis, The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, The Who – and more.
“Who Shot Rock & Roll,” the film, is directed by Steven Kochones and premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival on April 20, 2013. It is an Official Selection of 25 film festivals including the Traverse City Film Festival, Rhode Island International Film Festival, Savannah Film Festival, New Hampshire Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and Ojai Film Festival. The film has been honored with four festival awards including three for Best Documentary Short.

“Frans Lanting: The Evolution of LIFE”
Arclight’s original documentary brings National Geographic photographer Frans Lanting’s epic LIFE project to the big screen, taking viewers on a fascinating journey through time via dazzling images depicting life on Earth, from the Big Bang to the present. The film also recounts Lanting’s own evolution from natural history photographer to visual chronicler of life on the planet.
Directed by Steven Kochones, FRANS LANTING: THE EVOLUTION OF LIFE is filmed and presented in 4K resolution and features stunning images from Lanting’s vast photographic archive as well as new images shot specifically for the film. Supported by interviews with Lanting and long-time collaborator Christine Eckstrom, the film promotes an understanding of Earth’s natural history while instilling a sense of wonder about our living world.
Also appearing in the film are experts in the fields of biology, geology, planetary science and photography, including pioneering sociobiologist E.O. Wilson, Harvard University evolutionary biologist Andrew Knoll, NASA/JPL astrobiologist Abigail Allwood, primatologist Russell Mittermeier and National Geographic photo editor Elizabeth Krist, among others.
Earth’s most compelling locations serve as the backdrop, including the shores of Delaware Bay where Lanting’s inspiration for LIFE began. The film also takes viewers to subantarctic Campbell Island, Hawaii’s volcanic Mount Kilauea, New Zealand, the coastal dunes of Namibia, and Santa Cruz, California, allowing viewers to experience Lanting and Eckstrom’s approach to working in diverse natural environments.
FRANS LANTING: THE EVOLUTION OF LIFE was commissioned by the Annenberg Foundation for exclusive presentation at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles as part of the exhibition, “LIFE: A Journey Through Time,” now showing thru March 20, 2016.

From photojournalism to fashion to celebrity portraiture, this international group of millennial image-makers offers an eye-popping look at the way photography is created, shared and consumed in today’s frenetic culture.
EMERGING showcases some of the most talented young photographers from around the world, an elite group that represents vision, creativity and versatility. The film features: Olivia Bee, discovered by Converse at the age of 14; Pari Dukovic, born in Instanbul and the youngest ever staff photographer at The New Yorker and Marcus Smith, succeeding as a ‘start-up’ from Chicago’s South Side. Also featured: Corey Arnold, part-time commercial fisherman turned extreme nature photographer; Peter DiCampo, founder of the photoblog, EverydayAfrica; JUCO, a commercial photography duo shooting for brands including Nike, HP and Target; Dina Litovsky, a New Yorker of Ukrainian heritage focusing on social documentary; Russian-born documentary photographer Diana Markosian; Dutch photographer and multi-media journalist Ilvy Njiokiktjien; and American photojournalist Katie Orlinksy, who has documented Mexico’s drug wars.

From the Carter Family to Taylor Swift, this feature documentary explores the image of country music as captured through the lens of photography over the last 90 years. The film weaves iconic imagery, classic country songs and interviews with legendary artists and photographers into a dynamic look at this uniquely American sound.
Directed by Steven Kochones, produced by Arclight Productions and commissioned by Annenberg Space for Photography Films, the film features imagery and commentary by Grand Ole Opry photographer Les Leverett, iconic music photographers Henry Diltz and Raeanne Rubenstein, celebrity portraitist Leigh Wiener, documentarian Henry Horenstein, and contemporary shooters David McClister and Michael Wilson. Over 20 country music artists also appear, including Rosanne Cash, Roy Clark, Merle Haggard, Lyle Lovett, Charley Pride, LeAnn Rimes, Kenny Rogers, The Band Perry and Keith Urban. The film also features music and songs by Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, Hank Williams and more.
